The major golf tournament – which sees Europe battle the United States every two years – is being held at JP McManus’s Adare Manor in Co Limerick next year.
Smurfit Westrock, one of the world’s largest packaging groups, will be a worldwide partner for the next three Ryder Cups.
Other worldwide partners for the event include software firm SAP and Rolex.
Smurfit Westrock will also be the Ryder Cup’s official packaging innovation partner. It will use its expertise to help support the Ryder Cup’s wide network of commercial partners and suppliers to introduce best-in-class sustainable packaging solutions to the competition.
Smurfit Westrock chief executive Tony Smurfit said that the group has always had a strong connection to the golfing world. Smurfit Westrock was formed in 2024 following a merger between Smurfit Kappa and Westrock.
In 2006, the Ryder Cup was held at the K Club in Co Kildare. At the time, the venue was owned by Michael Smurfit, Tony’s Smurfit’s father. Europe won that competition by a significant margin.
“As our company has grown globally, our Irish roots remain deeply important,” said Tony Smurfit.
“I’m thrilled for Smurfit Westrock to be part of the Ryder Cup at Adare Manor in the 100th year of the event, as we showcase Ireland, Smurfit Westrock and the game of golf at its very best,” he added. “We are also proud to support JP McManus and his family in bringing the Ryder Cup back, as the event holds great significance for Irish sport and the broader economy.”
The Ryder Cup is expected to lure as many as 300,000 visitors to the Limerick region next year, as well as media outlets from across the world.
The Government anticipates that the economic benefit to Ireland of the event next year could be more than €300m.
The Government is also spending of millions of euro on the event, on top of local infrastructure upgrades.
Luke Donald has been named as the European captain for the 2027 Ryder Cup. He will attempt to be the first captain to lead a Ryder Cup team to three consecutive victories.
The 48-year-old English man previously captained Europe to a 16½ – 11½ victory against the United States at Marco Simone, Rome in 2023, and a 15-13 win at Bethpage, New York last September.
