Declan McNamee, recruitment specialist and founder of SK9 Human Capital, tells Mary McCarthy about the place of sport in a work-life balance and how talks with clients can almost be like counselling sessions
Declan McNamee sees a similarity in coaching sports and coaching employees
I’ve been involved in coaching underage soccer in Monaghan since 2016. Being a sports coach is a balancing act – you’re there to try to give them an environment where they enjoy it and improve. To be effective, you have to bring some discipline to each session and not make it too jolly, or it can turn into a bit of chaos.
I do soccer training at Blayney Academy FC two days a week and a weekend match. Coaching a team of 12- to 14-year-old girls football does tie into work to some degree. I ran my own recruitment company, Greywood Associates, for almost 13 years.
