Detailed plans to build more towering student flats in Glasgow have been submitted to the city council.
The first phase of the £250 million masterplan being brought forward by CxG Glasgow will see 620-bed blocks built on the south side of Bath Street at Charing Cross.
The area, once home to some of the city’s finest 19th century buildings, is being redeveloped with skyscrapers to house a growing demand for student housing. The latest submission follows outline planning consent being granted at the end of last year.
In a further milestone, Reigart Contracts has been appointed as demolition contractor, with works expected to be completed in early 2026. This will pave the way for a site start in Q2 2026.
This student accommodation scheme forms the first phase of the wider Charing Cross Gateway masterplan, which was approved by Glasgow City Council last year. Designed by Michael Laird Architects, the redevelopment is part of the changing face of the city that critics say is losing its heritage.

The proposals reflect a commitment to Glasgow’s future and align with the City Council’s ambitions for a more connected, liveable and sustainable city centre.
With a clear focus on delivering meaningful long-term investment, the plans are designed to support population growth, enhance public realm, and improve access to key transport and civic infrastructure.
Andrew Richardson, managing director of development (ESR Devco), said: “Momentum is building at Charing Cross. The submission of the detailed planning application and appointment of a demolition contractor marks a major step towards realising our vision for a new city gateway.
“This is a commitment not just to transforming a site, but to investing in Glasgow’s future and to creating spaces where people can live, study, work and thrive.”
