Rent changes won’t kick-start the building boom the country needs, developers warn

The Government’s latest moves to relax rent controls to encourage more building does not go far enough to kick-start the building boom hoped for by the State, according to a number of senior figures in the residential sector spoken to by the Sunday Independent.

Developers and builders have lodged enough building commencement notices since 2023 to deliver 51,000 homes this year, according to new analysis.
