Q. Has the Government abandoned its housing target for 2025?
A. Not quite, but Housing Minister James Browne has said the aim of building 41,000 new homes this year is “not realistic”. He points out that all the expert predictions are much lower. The bank has reduced its forecast to 32,500, while the ESRI is saying just over 34,000 this year and 37,000 next year. “Most of the risks weigh on the downside,” the ESRI’s Conor O’Toole added. Which means the figures could be even lower.
