Christmas is a big deal in Ireland. Coming from New Zealand, I’m still amazed by just how much of an occasion it is here. I often say to people living in Ireland, “Imagine having Christmas Day on June 25”. I usually get a look of horror as they try to picture a summer Christmas.

In New Zealand, a summer Christmas is less about roaring fires and fairy lights and more about barbecues, beaches and the start of the summer holidays.
