Ireland’s gold reserve has surpassed €1bn in value for the first time thanks to soaring prices and a Central Bank decision in 2021 to double its holding of the precious metal.

At the end of 2024, the Central Bank of Ireland held 12 tonnes of gold and gold receivables, which had a market value of €971m at the time.
