Cost-of-living and quality-of-life issues are weighing people down

People should be dancing into work with a perk in their step, given how well the economy is performing. However, there is sometimes a gulf between statistics and lived experience.

The Government racked up the second largest budget surplus in the EU last year. It took in record taxes. Corporation tax receipts were three times their 2019 level. Food exports were up 12pc on the previous year at a record €19bn.
