Government to introduce new rules to limit data centres’ electricity use

There will be a requirement to co-locate with renewable energy sources

The Government is to ­introduce rules to prevent giant data ­centres from using a disproportionate amount of electricity.

One requirement in future is that they be co-located with sources of renewable energy, in order that they do not act as a drain on the national grid.
