Former baggage handler gets senior airport role

Robert Paterson: opportunity

A former baggage handler at Aberdeen International Airport has been appointed operations director.

Robert Paterson joined the airport in 1998 and has held several roles including head of airside operations and, most recently, head of operations, helping to improve the passenger experience.

He will report directly to AGS’ chief operating officer, Ronald Leitch, who said: “Robert has consistently demonstrated strong leadership and a deep understanding of the operational challenges and opportunities at Aberdeen.

“His appointment comes at an exciting time as we continue to invest in infrastructure and sustainability initiatives that will shape the future of the airport.”

Mr Paterson said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to lead a dedicated team as we focus on delivering a safe, efficient, and world-class experience for our passengers and airline partners.”

Peter Barnes has been appointed chief operations officer at Edinburgh Airport.

He joins the executive team on a permanent basis following a spell as interim COO and an internal career spanning more than a decade.

He has held senior roles across operations, security and airfield management, and also brings extensive experience outside of aviation with roles at firms such as Royal Bank of Scotland, Motorola and Gore-Tex.

As chief operations officer, Mr Barnes will lead day-to-day airport operations. He will oversee airfield activity, terminal operations, security and resilience, and will also play a key role in shaping the airport’s future as it heads towards a significant expansion project.
