The dollar fell, stocks tumbled and gold hit fresh highs yesterday as US president Donald Trump doubled down on threats to annex Greenland from Nato-ally Denmark. US borrowing costs also rose.

Markets around the world continued to be shaken as world leaders, CEOs and officials jetted into Davos, in the Swiss Alps, for the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum.
