RTÉ has asked the Government for permission to offload the €600,000-a-year cost of administering a pension scheme for retired staff onto the fund itself.

Angry pensioners, who have accused the station of trying to “raid” the scheme, have written to Alan Kelly, chair of the Oireachtas Media Committee, urging him to hold a special hearing where the RTÉ board would justify the action.
