In a semi-detached house on the edge of Dublin, a couple in their early 30s have three browser tabs open and a baby due in eight weeks.
Each tab promises “family cover”, “maternity benefits” and soft-focus images of contented newborns, but the quotes sit somewhere between “just about manageable” and “more than our mortgage”.
