Taxpayers will be afraid to bring cases to the Tax Appeals Commission (TAC) if their cases are heard in public, which is the likely effect of a new government proposal, the Bar Council has warned.

It also says publication of names of tax defaulters by Revenue will “lose its teeth as a sanction or deterrent” if full details of taxpayers’ appeals are being made public anyway.
