Reaction to the Government’s fuel price measures reflected a growing expectation that the State’s role is to bail out everybody when things begin to get difficult.

It probably started with the €30bn of direct Covid supports. It reached ridiculous levels when the State handed out €3bn in energy credits to every household in the country, instead of just those who needed it most.
