New rules around the appeals process would mean sacrificing your privacy to contest a state decision

There is a long-standing presumption of privacy for compliant taxpayers. In fact, privacy has long been offered as a reward for non-compliant taxpayers who co-operate fully with Revenue to rectify their position and pay their dues.

Now the Department of Finance is seeking to undermine that privacy by implementing rules which would effectively remove a taxpayer’s right to request a private hearing at the Tax Appeals Commission (TAC) in all but the most exceptional circumstances.
