Q I work in a senior position in an accountancy firm, and I recently noticed that some colleagues are engaged in what I would consider to be unethical practices. The obvious course of action would be for me to become a whistleblower and report what I believe is going on.
But, let’s face it, becoming a whistleblower would probably mean the end of my career in here. I realise there are now legal protections in place for people who “blow the whistle” on malpractice, but we both know that there is a cultural resistance in Ireland towards what is regarded as “informing” and there is a high social price to pay.
