Two former MPs, Hannah Bardell and Martin Docherty-Hughes, have joined Scottish Media Training (SMT) to advise witnesses facing the scrutiny of parliamentary committees.

SMT was launched in 2011 by public affairs veteran Devin Scobie and the owner of PR company Acumen, Kevin Dorrian.

The two former MPs have become associates and have already been working with SMT clients.

Hannah Bardell was MP for Livingston (2015-2024) and a member of the Council of Europe (the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe PACE) for six years.

Martin Docherty-Hughes gained his seat in the Commons in 2015 and is a specialist in government relations and public affairs.

His is a former national policy adviser at Volunteer Scotland and a councillor on Glasgow City Council.

He said: “Appearing before a parliamentary committee can be one of the most challenging tests an organisation will face. Having been both a witness and a committee member, I understand the pressure and the importance of preparation.”
