Greywalls Hotel and Chez Roux, bordering Muirfield Golf Course in East Lothian, has been acquired by real estate manager AJ Capital Partners.
The deal includes the Mid Pines Inn and Pine Needles Lodge that skirt golf courses in the Pinehurst region of North Carolina.
The acquisitions take AJ Capital Partners’ Marine & Lawn Hotels & Resorts portfolio to eight properties. No details on the latest deal were disclosed.
Greywalls Hotel in Gullane has been owned by the Weaver family since 1926. Through a relationship with The Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers, guests receive access to Muirfield, which has hosted the Open Championship 16 times and is currently ranked sixth globally by Golf Digest.
Marine & Lawn’s in-house design team will lead a restoration of Greywalls, reimagining its interiors, food and drinks programme, and overall guest experience.
The hotels in North Carolina will also undergo comprehensive restorations led by AJ Capital’s design team, featuring fully renovated guestrooms, new dining concepts, and refreshed public spaces.
“These acquisitions represent a pivotal milestone for Marine & Lawn,” said Ben Weprin, founder of Marine & Lawn Hotels & Resorts, CEO and founder of AJ Capital Partners.
“Since launching the brand in 2019, our ambition has always been to honour golf’s most legendary locales with world-class hospitality. The addition of these iconic properties—each with deep roots in golf’s history—allows us to bring that vision to life on both sides of the Atlantic.”
The deal follows an announcement by the Balmoral Group, owner of Marcliffe, to acquire Woodbank, a Shell-owned property with hotel and leisure facilities, adjacent to the existing Marcliffe site in Pitfodels, Aberdeen.
Sir Jim Milne, chairman of Balmoral Group, said it would develop the facility to contribute to Aberdeen’s economy. The acquisition expands the Marcliffe site from eight to 22 acres.
