The jury is still out on whether I’m a cheapskate or just “frugal”. For instance, I took to the deposit return scheme for cans and plastic bottles with a little too much gusto; I can safely say I’ve gotten my 15c deposit back from every single can of Diet Coke I’ve bought since the scheme was introduced.
The energy crisis was the perfect time to channel my inner child of the 1980s. Rather than spend more on heating during the winter, I’d put a draught excluder on the front door, wear an extra jumper or two, and go to bed with an 80s-style red hot water bottle.
