For over three hours yesterday, the press centre in Government Buildings was like a bingo hall, as the Taoiseach, Tánaiste and three different ministers called out every number between one and 275.4 billion.

Maybe the most important number was actually one – the €1bn it is going to cost to give the restaurant sector a Vat cut in the Budget on October 7.
