Shay Given’s plan to build a state-of-the-art new sports complex for the booming game of padel at the Goffs horse-racing auctioneers site in Co Kildare is just the first of a number of venues he and his business partners in Arena Padel are planning nationwide, the former Republic of Ireland goalkeeper has told the Sunday Independent.

Given – the second most capped Irish footballer of all time after Robbie Keane – much prefers to play padel now rather than football in his spare time, he said.
