Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales: ‘The EU is making some disastrous ­missteps over the regulation of speech’

The internet entrepreneur talks to Adrian Weckler about his new book, the dangers of European laws on hate speech, being on texting terms with Elon Musk but wanting ‘Twitter’ to go out of business, and having no regrets about not making billions

‘I’m not going to answer that. That’s a ridiculous question.” Jimmy Wales, Wikipedia founder, doesn’t like being asked whether Mark Zuckerberg is a better authority on regulating speech than the European Union.

His new book, The Seven Rules of Trust: A Blueprint for Building Things That Last, is an optimistic, thoughtful, example-laden tract on how trusting people online and being creative with new ideas can ultimately save the internet.
