Talks: Bill Foley

American businessman Bill Foley has parted ways with Hibs less than two years after paying £6 million for a 25% stake in the Edinburgh club.

Talks had been going on for some time to see a deal done with the club’s majority shareholder, the Gordon family.

“We would personally like to thank everyone at Black Knight Football Club for amicably agreeing to the share acquisition,” chairman Ian Gordon said.

“We wish Black Knight nothing but the best moving forward.

“The future continues to look bright for Hibernian FC. We are confident in our football, strategic, commercial, and operational teams, and the success they will deliver for years to come.”

Foley owns English Premier League side Bournemouth through his Black Knight Group, but his first foray with a Scottish club showed signs of tension early in the relationship when he openly criticised the appointments of David Gray as head coach and Malky Mackay as sporting director.

The 80-year-old took out his shareholding in February 2024, but never came to Scotland to watch the Hibees, who are currently sitting in third place in the Scottish Premiership.

At the time, the deal with Foley was described by the club as “game-changing” but it’s thought the billionaire will now recoup his original outlay along with additional investments he has made.
