Mediahuis Ireland journalists have been shortlisted for six awards in the annual UCD Smurfit School Business Journalist Awards, alongside peers from titles including The Irish Times, Business Post and The Journal.
The awards, sponsored by Bank of Ireland, aim to celebrate exceptional reporting, analysis and storytelling across the Irish business media landscape.
This year’s competition attracted 126 entries, submitted by 72 journalists representing 17 media outlets.
Irish Independent technology editor Adrian Weckler is shortlisted for two awards – Business Podcast and Business Feature of the Year.
Mediahuis Ireland’s Garrett Mulhall is also shortlisted in the audio category for The Indo Daily, ‘Behind Closed Doors: The disgraced landlord Christian Carter and the newspaper gagging order’.
Irish Independent journalists Amy Molloy, Maeve McTaggart and Darragh Nolan are shortlisted in the business news category for their report ‘Exposed: How workers are getting sick certs for €25 without seeing a doctor’.
Amy Molloy is also shortlisted for the Women in Business Journalism award.
Sunday Independent chief business writer Fearghal O’Connor is shortlisted in the Business Interview of the Year category.
Other shortlisted journalists include Eoin O’Hare, Business Post; Emma Hanrahan, Business Post; and Hugh Dooley, The Irish Times in the Upcoming Journalist category.
Winners of each category will be announced at an awards ceremony on Monday, December 8, 2025, with each winner awarded a €1,000 prize.
