Irish betting firms breathed a sigh of relief after the UK government increased the tax on remote gaming – such as online slots and casino games – but left the rates unchanged in retail shops.

In her second budget, chancellor Rachel Reeves indicated she plans to raise an extra £1.1bn (€1.25bn) by the end of the decade from gambling.
