A firm owned by a US lawyer is set to be awarded almost $900,000 (€776,000) in compensation and damages against Ireland-based businessman Paul Wright after a magistrate in Florida recommended that a judge there adopt a default final judgment against him.

TMCT, owned by Cherish Thompson, sued Mr Wright and two of his Dublin-based firms last year, alleging Mr Wright had engaged in fraud and used client money to fund a lifestyle that included renting a private jet and buying a house for his son. It was also alleged in court that he had “stolen” millions of dollars from US investors.
