The Republic of Ireland has a younger population and a lower old-age dependency rate than Northern Ireland, suggesting more favourable long-term demographic conditions.
Between 2015 and 2024, the population in the Republic grew by 14.8pc, driven largely by strong net migration, while Northern Ireland’s population grew by just 3.9pc.
