Data centres told to increase use of renewable energy

Data centres must meet at least 80pc of their annual electricity needs through new renewable-energy projects based in the Republic of Ireland, the regulator has decided.

In an updated set of rules around electricity connection for large users, the Commission for the Regulation of Utilities (CRU) said that renewable projects currently in use will not count towards meeting the requirement.
