This Working Life with Séamus Boland: ‘I’ve spent my entire life fighting injustice and poverty. I’m not going to come up with a sexy new idea now’

The president of the European Economic and Social Committee, tells Mary McCarthy about how much he enjoys his work – and how he still makes time to help on the farm at weekends

Seamus Boland

In conversation with Mary McCarthy

In October, I was elected president of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC), one of the five EU institutions created by the Treaty of Rome in the 1950s.

The EESC gives voice to civil society – to workers, employers and civil society organisations. We bring balance to the debate on European Union policies and legislation and bring views from the furthermost parts of Europe.
