Ireland’s economic headwinds – slowing global growth, a sluggish labour market and persistently high costs

Concerns about a slowing job market, ongoing inflation, housing problems, and weaker global growth are set to be among the main economic fears for Ireland in 2026.

Irish economists painted a mixed outlook for the year ahead, with Ireland expected to be one of Europe’s strongest economies this year. However, policymakers have plenty of reasons not to take this for granted as many predict last year’s US import tariffs wlll now dampen global trade and economic growth.
