Smurfit WestRock will not be drawn on whether Donald Trump’s military intervention in Venezuela will increase the chances of it getting back $469m (€402m) it is owed by the South American state.

The money, related to a massive arbitration award made in favour of the packaging giant in 2018 following Venezuela’s seizure of a paper mill it owned in the country, is just one of billions worth of awards owed by the state, mainly to American oil giants.
