Tech companies should be treated as publishers and should no longer be allowed to behave like “free riders on the bus” when it comes to using copyrighted content to train AI tools, an Oireachtas committee has been told.
Speaking to the Oireachtas committee on Artificial Intelligence during a meeting on how AI is affecting truth and democracy, National Union of Journalists (NUJ) Assistant Secretary Séamus Dooley said platforms should no longer be allowed to claim they “only lit the match” when they “set the place on fire”.
