Vodafone is planning to launch satellite-based direct phone and video calls in Ireland.
Speaking to the Irish Independent, the company’s director of networks, Sheila Kavanagh, said that while a launch date and marketing plan has not yet been set, the operator has already identified a rural testing site and aims to be the first mobile network in Ireland to launch the service — just as soon as there are enough satellites in place to maintain consistent service, and they are given the green light by the telecoms regulator, ComReg.
