Fraud crimes are rising and scams are becoming harder to spot – here’s what you need to look for

There’s one kind of crime which is rocketing out of control. It’s not burglary or theft, or even murder. These are all down, thankfully.
When the gardaí issued its interim report on 2025 crime statistics, one stood out: fraud. Up a whopping 137pc, most complaints to the gardaí involve online scams.
