Energy firm Certa secures deals worth €1.4m to deliver solar panels to businesses

The agreements include a €1.2m project with healthcare manufacturing firm Jabil and a €200,000 deal with ventilation systems supplier Lindab, according to details released by the company.

The projects are the first completed under Certa’s new Solar as a Service (SaaS) offering, which aims to deliver €50m worth of solar energy projects to 100 large Irish businesses over the next five years.

Under the agreement with Jabil, around 3,000 rooftop solar panels are being installed at the company’s facility in Bray, Co Wicklow, it said.

The 1.5-megawatt solar system is expected to generate around 1.3 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually for the next 25 years.

According to the company, the installation will reduce carbon emissions at the site by around 360 tonnes each year.

The 178-kilowatt system is expected to generate approximately 165,000 kilowatt-hours of solar power each year

Jabil specialises in the design and development of healthcare products for pharmaceutical, medical device and diagnostics companies.

Lindab supplies ventilation and building solutions across Europe.

The project will see around 400 rooftop solar panels installed across the Lindab’s three sites in Dublin.

The 178-kilowatt system is expected to generate approximately 165,000 kilowatt-hours of solar power each year, while reducing emissions by about 44 tonnes annually.

Certa said the projects will be delivered through Alternative Energy Ireland (AEI), a renewable energy firm it acquired in 2023. AEI will oversee the installation and ongoing maintenance of the solar systems.

It aims to install around 50 megawatts of solar capacity across 100 Irish businesses over the next five years.

That level of capacity is expected to generate 50 gigawatt-hours of electricity annually, which the company said is equivalent to powering about 12,000 Irish homes each year.

Certa is a part of DCC and the group’s wider strategy is to expand its cleaner energy offerings as businesses seek to cut energy costs and reduce emissions, it said.

“We are delighted to provide our Solar as a Service to Jabil and Lindab and to respond to the growing demand from large commercial businesses in Ireland who are seeking renewable energy solutions,” Certa Ireland managing director Orla Stevens said.
