Permit for 131 new homes on Carlow holding

The development site at Crossneen

A ready-to-go residential development site for 131 new homes in Carlow town has come to the market and estate agents Coonan Property is guiding more than €5m for it.

Its planning permission will allow as many as 113 houses and 18 own-door duplex apartments.

Situated at Crossneen, just two kilometres south-west of Carlow town centre, the holding extends to about 14 acres (5.68 ha) and is primarily zoned with a Residential Objective in the Carlow Graiguecullen Joint Urban Local Area Plan 2024–2030.

Carlow town is the 12th largest urban centre in Ireland with a population of 27,000 and is located within the wider Dublin commuter belt as it benefits from its location close to the M9 motorway.

It is also on the Dublin-Carlow-Kilkenny-Waterford railway line with 12 trains from 6:30am daily to Dublin and 11 return.

It is also served by several Bus Éireann and private bus routes.

Demand for housing in the area is also underpinned by the presence of a South East Technological University (SETU) campus to the south of the town.

Coonan has set Wednesday, April 22, as the closing date for tenders.
