The AI company Anthropic is announcing 200 new jobs in Ireland across sales, engineering and finance by 2027. It also plans to increase its office space to 21,000 sq ft in central Dublin, a sixfold increase on its current office capacity here.

The expansion in Ireland comes after the firm, whose Claude AI app competes with ChatGPT and Gemini, raised a $30bn (€26bn) Series G funding round at a $380bn valuation.

Anthropic claims that its Europe, Middle East and Africa (Emea) revenue has grown 1,100pc over the last year. It also claims that its overall ‘annual recurring revenue’ currently sits at $14bn and will rise to $19bn by the end of this month. However, a recent legal filing from the company revealed that total revenue to the end of 2025 was just $5bn.

The vast majority (80pc) of Anthropic’s sales are to enterprise businesses. In Ireland, its customers include tech firms Wayflyer, Manna and Tines.

Claude recently topped the free iPhone apps chart in Ireland after a row with Donald Trump’s US department of defence saw Claude blacklisted from US government procurement. The company refused to allow its technology to be used for mass surveillance or military targeting.

Antropic is widely regarded as one of three major AI platforms dominating business and consumer usage.

The release of a new tool called Claude Cowork in January saw a slew of major global software firms lose between 10pc and 20pc of their share value as investors fretted that their products’ functionality might soon be substituted by AI systems from companies such as Anthropic.

“We’re expanding our Irish operations to meet strong enterprise demand across Europe,” said Daniela Amodei, president and co-founder of Anthropic.

“What we hear consistently from Europe’s largest businesses is that they want AI they can trust, systems that are safe, reliable and built with their interests in mind. That’s exactly what Anthropic exists to provide and Dublin is the ideal base to deliver it. The talent here is exceptional and we’re proud to be deepening our commitment to Ireland at this pivotal moment for AI adoption in Europe.”

The executive director of the IDA, Donal Travers, said the move by Anthropic tallied with Ireland’s “reputation as a global hub for applied AI”.

“Artificial intelligence has been identified as a key driver of investment growth within IDA Ireland’s strategy,” he said.

OpenAI is also seeking to double its presence in Dublin, where it employs around 200 people.
