Ireland needs a new super-simplified merger approval tier to speed non-contentious acquisitions through the regulatory process and free up resources for cases where complex competition issues do arise, a leading legal expert has warned.
Vincent Power, A&L Goodbody partner and head of its EU, competition & procurement group, said an increasing number of merger and acquisitions deals are subject to regulatory approvals simply as a result of inflationary effects, because deals are designated for approval based on the size of turnover.
