Q My wife and I have included our two sons on our health insurance plans since birth. They are now 25 and 26, and since we are both ready to retire, we are wondering will they be penalised for not having their own insurance, or will they be allowed to transfer over their years of being covered to their own health insurance.

A There is no penalty for transferring your dependants to cover in their own name, said Dermot Goode of TotalHealthCover.ie. They can switch directly to their own personal policies with no break in their cover and the cost will be the same assuming they remain on the same plan.
