Smurfit Westrock’s Covington paper mill in Virginia, US where the alleged incident occurred

A unit of Irish packaging giant Smurfit Westrock has rejected allegations made by a man who is suing the business for $75m (€64m) after he claimed he was left permanently disfigured following an incident at one of the group’s paper mills in Virginia.

Gregory Milam was working for a company called Usher Transport when he was delivering about 20 tonnes of caustic soda to Smurfit Westrock’s Covington paper mill in Virginia on January 21 this year.
