Oasis mania sees Edinburgh hotel prices double

Murrayfield getting ready for Oasis

Hotels are cashing in as Oasis fans descend on Edinburgh for three performances that will give the city economy another boost.

Demand for accommodation has seen average room rates for Friday almost double (91%) to £613 from £320.71 last week.

Based on an average ticket price of £171.10, Barclays has calculated that Oasis fans will spend on average of £766.22 on accommodation, eating and drinking out, new outfits and travel to see the gig – highlighting a wider boost to the Scottish economy.

Stuart McCallum, partner and head of consumer markets in Scotland as RSM UK, said: “As headwinds continue to build little by little for hoteliers – including rising employment costs, stagnating room rates, and a dip in occupancy in May, some might say the resurgence of 90’s nostalgia and certain rock ‘n’ roll stars couldn’t have come at a better time to boost Scotland’s economy.

“Big ticket events such as this bring significant increased footfall and will be welcomed by retail and hospitality businesses across Scotland. With Edinburgh expected to come alive with pop-up shops, Britpop fashion and crowd singalongs, Oasis is bringing a retro reboot to the Scottish economy.”

A Fife company has recreated the iconic parka worn by Liam Gallagher at Glastonbury in 1995 ahead of his return to Edinburgh.

The Keela parka

Glenrothes-based Keela Outdoors has made a limited edition of 50 copies of the Falkland Parka ‘95, with a donation from the proceeds going to Radio Forth’s Cash For Kids appeal.

The jacket was worn by Gallagher when Oasis played Glastonbury 30 years ago. And with the band – and the coat – making a comeback, it inspired the factory to swing into production.

Sam Fernando, Keela sales director said: “We’re so excited to be bringing back our Falkland Parka, refreshing it for a new generation whilst keeping the essence of what made the original so special.”
