Exchequer position improves ahead of next month’s budget, piling pressure on Paschal Donohoe for tax cuts

But Government expenditure continues to keep pace with tax receipts

Paschal Donohoe is facing into next month’s budget in a strong position, after another boost to state finances from strong tax returns in August.

In the second-last set of Exchequer returns before the budget on October 7, tax returns to the end of August stood at €64.1bn – €4.4bn (7.3pc) ahead of the same period last year.
