For years now, sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) has been touted as a crucial element in the drive to reduce airline emissions and set the global aviation business on the trajectory to net zero.

Yet the challenge to produce sufficient SAF to meet global requirements is nowhere close to being adequately addressed – and there are growing doubts about whether it ever will.
