Regina Doherty: Without a culture of investment, young people will get left behind

Irish households have accumulated billions in savings, which is earning little to no interest. We need to turn these savers into investors

As a teenager, I remember going down to the bank in person to open my first account, having been hounded by my mother into doing so.

One thing we all learned growing up was the value of saving and minding your money. However, as a country, and as a continent, I think we now need to recognise an important fact. While we are great at saving, a lot of our money is just sitting there, losing value, in savings or current accounts earning little to no interest.
