Sales growth in Hermes’ key leather unit fell slightly short of expectations, disappointing investors who have come to expect outperformance from the luxury industry’s highflyer.
The company’s shares fell as much as 5pc in early Paris trading yesterday, after Hermes International SCA said revenue at the unit – its main profit engine – rose 13.3pc in the third quarter, slightly below the 13.8pc analysts expected.
The luxury brand hit the headlines here when failed presidential election candidate Maria Steen held a striking blue Hermes Kelly handbag, as she conceded defeat in her bid to secure a nomination. Models of the bag can cost between €10,000 and €20,000.
Yesterday’s results show the bag maker continues to attract wealthy shoppers, especially in the US – despite the Trump tariffs.
