Ireland should consider small nuclear reactors as current energy strategy is “divorced from reality” — Irish Engineering Academy

In its latest research report, the Irish Academy Of Engineering says that small nuclear reactors could help Ireland’s energy security beyond 2050

Ireland should “commence preparation” for nuclear energy planning and consider constructing small nuclear reactors to provide for energy security, the Irish Academy of Engineering has recommended.

Small nuclear reactors (SMRs), which are currently being rolled out or planned in Estonia, Britain, the US and Canada, and are already operational in Abu Dhabi, Russia and China, typically produce around a third of the energy of a larger nuclear facility.
